Trail Overview

This is an amazing ride. It is intermittently covered with decomposing granite for traction and can be fairly rough. It is well maintained as it still has a working tower. Sheer drop-offs are not for the faint-hearted. It's like a one-way Pikes Peak, just not as many switchbacks. The ride is easy. Take your time. To access the Butte trail, you must ride through very flat well maintained dirt roads through cattle country accessible from ORV friendly Arco. Watch for cows and cowboys. Also, there is private land that you ride on so stick to road please.

Road maintenance has made the climb to the top of Big Southern Butte passable in almost any vehicle in dry conditions.
