Trail Overview
Big Creek Road is a 13.5-mile out-and-back gravel road that climbs from ID6 around the north side of Gold Hill and serves as an access point to many other trails in the Gold Hill trail network. The first 8.4 miles weave in and out of private property and private timberland. Big Creek remains a well-maintained gravel road for its length before coming to a 4-way intersection at its end. At this point, taking a left or continuing straight puts you on southbound Waterhole Creek, a 50" wide restricted OHV trail. According to some outdated maps, continuing straight or taking a right should keep you on Big Creek, however, the straight route depicted on these maps no longer exists, and taking a right turns onto northbound Waterhole Creek, however, maps do not show any vehicle restrictions for this segment of Waterhole Creek. This eventually connects with Palouse Divide/FS 377.
History
Historically, this trail used to connect Big Creek/FS 370 with Palouse Divide/FS 377. This connection is now only possible with a capable rig, as the last half-mile is tight, off-cambered, and rutted.
