Trail Overview

Bear Hole is a scenic and flowy mountain singletrack trail in the Boise National Forest, perfect for intermediate dirt bike riders looking for a smooth, fast-paced ride through a beautiful mountain landscape. Stretching approximately 4.8 miles, this trail connects Forest Road 129 to the Bear Hole Creek area, offering an exceptional experience with minimal technical obstacles. The route features a smooth dirt surface mostly free of deep ruts or whoops, allowing riders to maintain decent speed through many sections. With a maximum elevation of 6,770 feet and a minimum of 5,913 feet, the trail navigates through moderate switchbacks and climbs, presenting a cumulative elevation gain of about 1,073 feet and a descent of 1,519 feet. Along the journey, riders will encounter a few shallow stream crossings and navigate sections of standing deadfall left behind by past forest fires. Because of these burn areas, early-season riders should expect fallen logs and are highly encouraged to carry a chainsaw to clear any trail blockages. Unlike wider trails designed for four-wheel-drive vehicles or SxSs, this tight mountain singletrack is strictly for dirt bikes and off-road motorcycles. The trailhead is easily accessible via a small parking area off Forest Road 129, which features a convenient loading ramp to facilitate unloading bikes. Rated as an intermediate level 5, Bear Hole provides an excellent, continuous flow that seamlessly blends scenic mountain valleys with just enough minor obstacles to keep the ride engaging.
