Trail Overview
Located within the lush Līhu'e-Kōloa Forest Reserve, this iconic out-and-back trail leads adventurers to the historic site where the original Jurassic Park gate once stood. While the gate itself is gone, the two original stone pillars remain as a legendary photo op for fans. The route consists of a mostly single-track dirt road with areas to pass oncoming travelers. Be prepared for overgrown vegetation, flying insects, and potential mud puddles along the trail; the terrain can become quite slick and messy during wet weather. A highlight of the trek is a low-water stream crossing, which serves as a perfect spot to cool off during the warmer months. There are 3 total water crossings, deep mud, and dangerous conditions after rain. Use caution throughout the drive, as this is a popular area where you may encounter hikers on the path.
Difficulty
Difficulty changes rapidly during wet conditions. The sign before the first low water crossing states 4X4 required. Three water crossings, deep mud, and dangerous conditions after rain.
