Trail Overview

Tinsley Powerline Road takes you from Halloway Road at the east end to Coral Farms Road at the west end of the trail in the northwest part of the Etoniah Creek State Forest. The road conditions are a mixture of packed sand, loose sand, and some deep holes that can turn into 3 to 4-foot deep mud holes after rainy days and areas that never dry up. It's probably the most technically challenging trail in the Wildlife Management Areas. The road is not always wide enough for two vehicles to pass. 4WD and high clearance are mandatory. All vehicles must be street legal. ATVs are prohibited. Located just to the south of the 819-acre Georges Lake, Etoniah Creek State Forest has 491 feet of lake frontage. Three shallow creeks (Falling Branch Creek, Etoniah Creek, and Rice Creek) meander through floodplain swamps and bottomland hardwoods. A daily-use or recreational permit is required to enter the State Forest.

Difficulty

Obstacles and flooded areas require High Clearance and 4WD. This trail is probably the most challenging in the Etoniah Creek State Forest. Do not access alone or without recovery tools.

History

The Palatka-to-Lake Butler State Trail, a Florida Rails-to-Trails project, crosses the south side of the forest. The project converted an old railroad bed into a paved multi-use trail.

All the mud gathers in the middle of trail in the valley not very deep only a 2 or so foot deep hole and another tiny muddy spot. And some sand.

Pretty dry today. A couple of 1-2 foot wet ruts. The end section on the west end is a bit overgrown. Expect a few light trail stripes.

Yea I’m not sure how this got its rating, but This is not a 6/10 trail. It’s more like a 3 or 4. There is loose sand and some elevation. Theres a couple mud holes that may get deep when it rains but it had a hard bottom so getting stuck would be a rare occasion. I stayed in 2wd most of the time and used 4wd just so it would struggle on the really loose sand going up hill. A 2wd rig could do it with good tires and some beans. If it was raining maaaaybe it would be more challenging.
