Janes Memorial Scenic Drive

The Janes Memorial Scenic Drive is the main access point to the majority of hiking and biking trails in the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. Fakahatchee Strand Preserve is the largest state park in Florida and is home to a variety of plant and animal species that can be found nowhere else in the continental U.S. Janes is a 6-mile dirt road that can be accessed from State Road 29. Visitors can hike or bike at numbered gates along the drive or an additional 4.5 miles of Janes that is closed to vehicle traffic and extends to the park's border with Picayune Strand State Forest. The most spectacular hiking trail starts at the end of the Scenic Drive: it takes you through the Swamp to The Fakahatchee Hilton. A rustic private cabin surrounded by the Swamp Lake and hundreds of Alligators. The road conditions are a mixture of packed sand, loose sand, and some deep holes that can turn into 2 feet deep mud holes after rainy days. The road is not always wide enough for two vehicles to pass. 4WD and high clearance are recommended. All vehicles must be street legal. A Florida State Park Pass or a $3 fee per vehicle is required to enter the park.
