Trail Overview
Ellis Ford Road is a long, mostly straight forest track running through a mix of pine flats and shaded oak corridors in Jennings State Forest. The surface is primarily firm sand with occasional gravel patches, offering an easy and consistent drive.
The route includes sections with open sightlines through tall pine stands, as well as stretches of denser canopy where light filters through the trees. A staging and parking area is located at one end of the trail, with space for multiple vehicles and access to nearby trailheads.
At the far end, the road leads to the Ellis Ford canoe and kayak launch on North Fork Black Creek. This is a designated fee area, providing water access for paddling and recreation in a quiet forest setting.
Traffic is typically light, and the road remains passable in most conditions, with only minor soft spots forming after heavy rain. Its open, steady nature makes it a useful connector to other parts of the forest while still providing a scenic, relaxed drive.
