Trail Overview

This short, sweet cutover is much easier and less technical than the Western Hauser Geode beds route. The hill transitions are less severe and steep. The northern half is private property and signage states that it needs to be left alone for collecting, while the southern 2/3 of the trail is open BLM, and there are many spots to pull over, make camp, and see what gems lie inside the many different rocks in the area. Be sure to bring a rock hammer and a shovel and use caution while exploring the fascinating jewels of the desert. See how many different types of geodes you can find! The trail is overall easy, with just a few steeper hills that may require Four Wheel Drive. There are two bars of Verizon LTE in the area. This is a high-traffic area for illegal border activity. Be sure to report any suspicious activity to Homeland Security/Border Patrol and use caution when traveling.

Difficulty

This trail is mostly easy. There are a few shorter hills that may require 4WD to get up, but most stock off-road vehicles should not have much of an issue. Be sure to use careful tire placement in order to avoid tire damage.

Most everything on this route could be accomplished by a 2wd vehicle, although it is not recommended. We had a Kia Sorento with us and they did fine. if you're Rockhounding, this gets you to the lower part of the Hauser geode beds for some nice finds.
