Trail Overview
Valley View Ranch Road offers an easy, scenic 1.7-mile desert drive through a unique, recovery-phase landscape in the Mojave National Preserve, making it ideal for standard four-wheel-drive vehicles and street-legal off-roaders looking to explore the area's history. Connecting Deer Spring Road to the west with Cima Road to the east, the trail bisects a section of Joshua tree forest heavily impacted by the 2020 Dome Fire, providing a striking look at desert regeneration. The route sits at an elevation between 4,879 and 5,036 feet, featuring a very mild grade with less than 160 feet of total elevation change.
The primary surface is dirt washboard, requiring drivers to stay alert for occasional washouts that may require slowing down, though the overall technical difficulty remains very low. While the road leads toward the private Valley View Ranch, visitors must remain on the designated path and respect the private property boundaries at the end. Because the trail lies entirely within the Mojave National Preserve, all operating vehicles must be street-legal, meaning non-registered SxSs, ATVs, and dirt bikes are prohibited. Dispersed camping is not permitted along this short corridor, but travelers can expect reliable cell coverage with about two bars of LTE service throughout the drive.
