Trail Overview

Fun loop around Rockfront OHV. This loop shows you everything Rockfront has to offer the Central Coast of California;steep climbs, jumpy fast double track, and lots of dust! This loop also brings you to Baja Campground. Enjoy the double track with anything from a moto to a full-sized 4x4.

When you come to the first fork in the road, left takes you to two camp grounds that I think most two wheel drive vehicles would be fine. You would only want a smaller off road ready trailer if you were pulling one. Going right at the fork, road 28, gets extremely steep and rutted. My Canyon showed a pitch maximum of 25 degrees in a few sections. This was a technical road which gave me pause in a few spots but my truck did fine. I have 9.6” ground clearance and no problem. Definitely 4x4 recommended. It was exciting but I don’t think my wife would have enjoyed it. Thankfully no other vehicles to deal with because it’s pretty tight. I did the full loop which connected to 29 and then a section of 27. It took about 2 hours.

The trail itself wasn’t super technical but there are steep inclines and declines. The most we measured was 22%. I would highly not recommend this trail if there is a fear of heights. Many steep drop offs along the way. We did start from the right side of the loop. The trail is also very narrow in some spots and we left with some gnarly pin stripes to add on to our collection.

the ranking for this loop on the map is in the green range but that's for the part of the trail/loop that gets you to the campsites. The rest of the loop back to the staging area can pretty steep in both directions, rocky as well as sandy at the same time. Trail narrows during the steep stuff, plenty of pinstriping for a Subaru width vehicle. It was certainly fun, technical, and beautiful but certainly not for a novice driver or a vehicle without good clearance (>10in).

Grip is low. Took a few hours to ride all the trails. Had a good time. Dusty but not to bad.
