Trail Overview

A primary, 6.4-mile Forest Service access road that transitions from graded gravel (easy, fast travel) to a rutted dirt track as it moves into the western end, which was affected by past wildfires. It is the key feeder road for the extensive Miami Mountain OHV trail network (motorcycle/ATV trails). Seasonal: Given the 4,300-foot elevation, expect potential seasonal closure due to snow or heavy mud in the winter months.

Difficulty

Rated Easy, this road is generally passable by most 2WD passenger vehicles when dry, though 4x4 is recommended on the rutted western section and is required for accessing the connecting OHV trails.

History

The road leads up to the historic Miami Mountain Fire Lookout, originally built in 1934, which was a vital part of the area's fire suppression history. The western portion of the route shows the impact of a past wildfire.

Did majority of the trail in 2WD but be aware that due to weather there are parts with thick soft mud, deep puddles, deep ruts, and downed trees. I cleared out 3 trees off the trail with a chainsaw and almost de-beaded my tire in a rut that I slipped into. 4 Low will probably be needed on some parts of the trail. Always check depth before going through a puddle.
