Trail Overview

This trail starts on Pumpkin Patch Road and features a hard-packed mud surface that creates unique conditions. The surface is uneven throughout with some off-camber sections, ruts, and holes scattered along the way. There is very little vegetation in this stark landscape. The route cuts through some mud hills with mud walls, winding its way through the crevasses in a dramatic setting. There are many unnamed spur trails to explore branching off this trail, giving you numerous opportunities to discover the surrounding area and its intricate network of passages through the mud formations.

Difficulty

This is a challenging trail that would be much harder if wet and muddy, so conditions matter significantly. The uneven surface with off-camber sections, ruts, and holes demands careful navigation and skilled line choice. The mud hills and crevasses create technical terrain that requires high clearance and attention. The hard-packed mud, when dry, is manageable, but the features combine to create a difficult route. Avoid this trail in wet conditions when the mud would become treacherous.

I drove this trail from the South to the North and do not see why it had a high difficulty rating. The whole trail I did in a stock 92 ford ranger with 31" tires and never needed to put it into 4x4. Some of the hills might be more more challenging if you start on the north side but from the south if you stay on the main trail its an easy drive.
