Trail Overview

This is the descending trail from Red Mountain Trail to Reed Vally Road. The beginning of the trail has some washed-out sections and tight switchbacks and becomes smoother as you descend the mountain. Sweeping vistas, mountain meadows, woods, and mountain views are visible throughout the length of the trail. This is a pleasant and scenic drive that most high-clearance 4x4s should be able to tackle without much difficulty.

Difficulty

Going down the mountain, you can get by without 4WD. If you run it from the bottom-up, you may need it, depending on the trail conditions. Some off-camber sections require being deliberate about your speed and line.

PRIVATE PROPERTY: Back side of Juan Diego Flats from Reed Valley Road runs right to private property. The gate was open but posted sign says “let us have peace. Trail starts at Cary Rd off 371” so we went back to 371. Turn left on Cary road and it runs right into the other end of red mountain.

Locked gate with no trespassing signs on bottom ( West end) of Juan Diego 6S89. I ran up Red Mountain to the lookout and returned via Juan Diego. Towards the bottom, there's a locked gate at 33.56930, -116.82814. I was able to get through by passing through two open gates on an adjacent parcel but this was odd. If this is an open FS road, there's likely an easement that needs to be enforced here.
