Trail Overview
This 0.9-mile two-track is a smooth, easy trail in the high-country road network, serving as a direct continuation of the 8S035 (Boneridge) trail. It leads directly to a large, scenic group campsite located on an exposed granite ridge overlooking Huntington Lake below. The road traverses a mixed-severity burn zone (snags visible in photos), providing expansive views. The surface is wide and smooth DG, making for a relaxing transit straight to the highly coveted flat granite overlook, which is perfect for group staging and taking in the panoramic views, in addition to camping.
Difficulty
This road is suitable for all passenger vehicles when dry, as the surface is smooth and the elevation gain is minimal (approximately 74 feet over 0.9 miles). The R2 rating is assigned primarily because the route culminates on an exposed granite knob that requires high clearance for the final entry and maneuvering over minor rocks and debris, justifying a cautious pace. Four Wheel Drive is not required.
