Trail Overview

This trail starts out as a pretty easy dirt road and makes for a nice cruise through the forest. It only gets more challenging toward the end when you reach the final climb. That section has some bigger rocks, a few ledges, and some tighter, winding spots where you’ll need to pick your line a bit more carefully. One of the coolest parts of the drive is seeing the transition from the areas burned in the 2021 Caldor Fire to sections of forest that were left untouched. It’s a pretty noticeable shift and gives you a sense of what the area went through. You’ll get great views of the surrounding mountains along the way. A 4WD vehicle with decent clearance should handle it just fine, especially in dry conditions

Difficulty

The majority of the trail is very easy. Towards the end, when nearing the lookout tower, you'll reach a fairly steep climb with a number of large rocks and obstacles.

Overall 4/10 is a good rating for this trail, I completed it in a stock 200 series Land Cruiser with 33’s. The only complicated section is when you come up to a washed out area with loose rock near the Caldor Fire scar you will find a steep slope of loose rock, at the end of the loose rock there’s a granite slab that steps up about 12” to 18”, it varies in height. This section was only challenging because of the stock height of my vehicle and not having any sliders skid plates or bumpers; 33’s and 4lo was enough. The rest of the trail is dirt, gravel, loose large rocks, or areas you may need to slow down and choose a line, but it’s easier than the steps. Anything lifted or with bigger tires will likely have no issues.
