Trail Overview
This sandy and gravel trail weaves through tall pine forest, offering occasional glimpses of the majestic Eastern Sierra, including distant views of Mammoth Mountain. The route is part of the larger Crater Loop network and connects with spur trails like S133 and FS 2S124B, giving explorers options to extend their journey. Expect a dusty ride, especially during dry summer months. At multiple intersections with other trails, you’ll cross some deep ruts that have been carved out by consistent side-by-side use. A few of the corners are particularly rutted, requiring careful tire placement to maintain a smooth track. Still, the serene pine surroundings and mountain vistas make this a worthy drive.
Difficulty
This trail is relatively straightforward but includes a few moderately challenging sections. Deep ruts at intersections and some tight, rutted corners from SxS traffic can jostle lower-clearance vehicles or catch less attentive drivers off guard. High clearance is recommended, though 4WD is not strictly necessary in dry conditions. Drivers should take their time navigating trail crossings and watch for loose gravel in corners. Suitable for stock rigs with a bit of ground clearance and a driver comfortable with light trail obstacles.
