Trail Overview
This is an easy, fast, and fun 8.1-mile forest service road offering high-speed transit through a beautiful, healthy section of the high country. The road is a wide, two-lane track primarily comprised of well-graded gravel, packed dirt, and occasional sections of broken pavement, allowing for fast 15-20 mph average speeds. Crucially, this road was NOT severely impacted by the 2020 Creek Wildfire, providing a welcome contrast of dense shade and green canopy compared to the surrounding burn zones. This FS road accesses the popular Brewer Lakes and Swamp Lakes trails (both rated 7 - Difficult). At an elevation above 8,000 feet, this trail is best visited in the Summer and Fall.
Difficulty
This road is suitable for all passenger vehicles when dry, requiring no 4X4 engagement. The R2 rating is assigned due to the occasional embedded rock and broken pavement sections that necessitate high clearance for sustained comfort at the high 15-20 mph average speed. This is a quick, low-stress road designed for efficient transit across the ridge.
