Trail Overview
El Paseo Road trail climbs almost 400 feet and drops over 1700 feet in just over 5 miles. It is arguably one of the most beautiful trails in the state park, offering stunning views of colorful rock formations, valleys, and the Eastern Sierras and Red Rocks Canyon State Park Mountains. A few sections are very slow going with sharp rocks and steep hills, where four-low and any type of traction control would be very helpful due to the incline and loose rocks and sand the north half of the trail is very slow going, but the south half moves more smoothly as the road is more smooth, still offering stunning views, including views of Kohne Lake coming down the hill.
Difficulty
Coming from the north, the trail presents challenges, including a steep shelf road with various sections of loose and embedded rocks, steps, and off-camber sections up to 18 inches deep. A few sections are very slow going with sharp rocks and steep hills, where four-low and any type of traction control would be very helpful due to the incline, loose rocks, and sand.
