Trail Overview

Departing Walker Way northbound toward BLM 702, this route briefly starts in a wash before quickly jumping onto a plateau and heading toward Picacho Peak Wilderness. Hard-packed sand and gravel create the surface with very little vegetation directly around the trail, though desert trees and brush appear further away from the roadbed. The Chocolate Mountains hover in the distance, providing a scenic backdrop. This open, flat, smooth surface runs very wide, inviting speed if you're inclined to move quickly across this fast section. A couple of small wash drops and a few small ruts at the north end barely interrupt the otherwise effortless flow.

Difficulty

The open, flat, smooth surface makes this one of the easiest routes around, perfect for making time between points. Very wide width means you can pick your line freely and pass easily. Those couple of small washes and a few small ruts at the north end register as minor bumps rather than obstacles. Hard-packed sand and gravel provide excellent traction. You could run this in nearly anything with wheels. Ideal connector for accessing more challenging terrain without drama.
