History
Bickel Camp, established in 1934 in the Mojave Desert’s Last Chance Canyon by prospector Walt Bickel, is a preserved Depression-era mining site showcasing desert ingenuity. Founded on mining claims, it features unique, self-built, and salvaged machinery, providing a glimpse into off-grid desert life. Today, it is a protected museum site preserved by volunteers, located near the Burro Schmidt Tunnel.
