Trail Overview
Annex Sale (FS 7S062Y) is a short, sweet, and incredibly useful out-and-back trail for anyone looking to escape the crowds near Bass Lake. Branching off the paved Highland Drive, this easy dirt two-track climbs gently through a mixed conifer forest, serving essentially as a mile-long driveway to some prime camping real estate. The trail is shaded, quiet, and generally smooth, with just enough minor ruts to remind you that you're off the pavement. It’s a dead-end route, which is a feature, not a bug—it means zero through-traffic and maximum peace and quiet. The trail terminates at a large group dispersed campsite, offering plenty of room for multiple vehicles to circle the wagons. If that spot is taken, several other cozy pullouts along the way provide excellent alternatives for setting up a tent or hammock.
Difficulty
This trail is a textbook Rating 1 experience. The surface is primarily smooth dirt and pine needles with no significant obstacles, rocks, or steep grades to worry about. The "minor ruts" mentioned are negligible and easily navigated by any stock high-clearance vehicle, including 2WD trucks and most crossovers. It is designed for access rather than technical challenge, making it a stress-free drive for anyone looking to find a campsite without risking their oil pan.
