Trail Overview
Departing BLM 931 North through a very narrow start with a sand wall hugging one side, this gravel wash route maintains a fairly narrow one vehicle width with some passing space where terrain permits. Large trees, seasonal wildflowers, and desert brush crowd the wash corridor, creating dense vegetation. The trail climbs out of the wash and transitions to winding up and down hills along a shelf road ridgeline, completely changing character. Amazing views of all the Chocolate Mountains open up from this elevated position, with a teddy bear cacti forest adding unique scenery. The route terminates at BLM 640 after its journey from the wash bottom to the ridgeline heights.
Difficulty
The very narrow start with a sand wall on one side demands precision from the first foot. One vehicle width throughout means careful navigation and limited passing opportunities. The climb out of the wash and subsequent shelf road ridgeline sections require attention to exposure and line selection. The winding up and down hills add elevation changes that test momentum management. High clearance helps with the wash terrain and ridgeline navigation. The teddy bear cacti forest creates beautiful hazards to avoid.
