Trail Overview

Unmaintained dirt road accessing Alstrom Point above Lake Powell in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. This is an easy drive out to a scenic viewpoint. It does have one section of a rock garden where the path is unmarked as you pick your line across the rocks. The campsites and viewpoint at the rock garden are where passenger cars generally stop as vehicles with higher clearances scramble through the rocks to the main viewpoint a couple of miles further along.

We took our street legal Cam-an Defender and it was easy. Yes when you hit the last 2 miles it’s rocky but isn’t bad at all. 4 wheel drive is handy but really don’t need it.

Easy trail. Got alittle bumpy here and there. I only had to engage 4L and rear locker once for a steep hill climb.

I thought this trail was more of a 4-5 rating. There are some sections that have ledges about 8-14 inches. The are off camber sections and places I was glad to have 4-low with atleast rear locker. Some of the shelves you need to climb are covered in loose sand, so the extra traction helps. There are some amazing views over looking down to the river.

It was pretty easy in my Rubicon, never needed 4 wheel drive. A 3 rating is about right for this trail. But, I would only recommend it for a 4x4 vehicle in case of foul weather. The view is definitely worth the trek!!

Great trail, but the last part is definitely not a green “3”. Was okay in the Sprinter because of the amount of ground clearance, but don’t expect that part to be easy.

Absolutely worth the views. Obviously you need the vehicle to get to the place where these photos were taken. A Subaru would not make it the last two or so miles. Basically a slip rock garden you climb through to get to some awesome campsites overlooking the lake. You can stop before the technical part and still have views. It wasn’t too difficult for us just technical and needed low range to crawl up a steep section at one point. If you have high clearance you should be fine.

Mainly easy dirt road, but the last few miles is not what they show on YouTube. It’s a non-technical rock garden, high clearance is a must I never needed 4x4.

Last 2 miles you definitely need a high clearance 4x4. you will destroy your subaru if you bring it

first part of the trail is easy sand/dirt road, would be careful of mud on rainy days. last part is bumpy slick rock but doable for any stock 4x4, the views at the end are well worth it.
