Description
Upper Javelina Trail probably gets the most use by day hikers staying at the Ritz Carlton, but it also serves well as a connector to the Wild Mustang Trail and the Cochie Springs Trail. The trail branches off from the Wild Burro Trail and then climbs pretty sharply up the hillside over some very rugged terrain with large boulders. The slope and terrain make this section more difficult to hike. Before long, you'll be looking down from above to the Ritz Carlton, and you'll come to a junction with the Upper Javelina Hotel Spur that shortens the route and leads back to the resort. Continue on to the right past this, and you'll come to the junction with the Wild Mustang Trail, which also leads to Cochie Canyon, or you can stay on the Upper Javelina Trail and head back down the hillside toward a road which leads back to the main entry road and trailhead.
