There and Back
Start at the Trail Canyon trailhead and head north, like you would if headed to the North Loop Trail. In fact, the trail is the same for the first 3.5 miles. Two switchbacks after the Cave Spring springs, you'll see a scree slope to your right and a tree with an arrow pointing right and a large "M" carved into it. Divert off the main trail and pick your way up the scree slope for about 0.5 miles (poles helpful). Once on the ridge proper, the social trails converge and an easy-to-find trail leads you past limestone cliff bands. The trail will lead you to a break in the cliff band and some class 2/3 scrambling (short, maybe 50-75 vertical feet). Once above this, enjoy the broad, flat summit with plenty of space. There is a benchmark and a summit register in an ammo can.Take care on your descent of the scree field. The darker rocks, while more difficult to ascend, are easier to descend.
