Be aware that this trail runs through an active wetland floodplain and when the Trinity exceeds its banks, 80% of the trail may be submerged. Utilize caution and sound judgement during high water.
Path Type
Point to Point
The trail begins at the main parking lot where you'll find some trail information as well as a portable toilet. The trail quickly starts down a hill that follows a doubletrack gravel road. The road comes to an end at the intersection of the Old Wetlands Road. From there on, the trail follows a singletrack dirt path that is easily navigated. The trail continues through a wetlands forest that has standing water in many locations.
Eventually, you'll arrive at a large pond that borders the Trinity River and is home to countless birds and wildlife. As you continue along the levee, you are offered many photo ops and great places to sit down and enjoy the view. After circumnavigating the entire pond, the trail continues into the bottomland forest where it terminates at the Fisherman's Trail. This a wonderful hike that offers plenty of solitude and quiet where you can enjoy the surrounding nature.
