Bixhoma Lake Hours 6am - 10pm. The road to the west end of this trail can be rough and has deep puddles. Low-clearance vehicles should park elsewhere around the lake.
Path Type
Point to Point
This trail starts at the "road's end" on the East and West side of Bixhoma Lake and can be hikeed in either direction. Starting from the west side to the junction of the Bixhoma Bluff Trail, the trail is not really well-used/established yet and is not often marked. But it is easy enough to follow without the flags if you pay attention.
Starting from the east side, you follow an old doubletrack road for 0.5 miles until you get to the trail portion. From there, the trail is well-used and marked with either yellow or orange flags all the way until around the lake until you get to the junction with the Bixhoma Bluff Trail. There is a 20-30' wide creek crossing that you may have to wade across (ankle-calf height) if it has rained a lot recently or if it's hasn't rained in a while you may be able to connect up rocks to get across dry without taking your shoes off.
This trail is VERY rocky along some sections and has hidden roots/stumps that can easily trip you. So be careful! You can easily connect to the Bixhoma Bluff Trail/Ichabod Crane Trail on the west side along this trail to do a nice Low/High combo.
A total loop around the lake on this trail that includes the road walking is about 3.5mi (2.3mi trail hiking and 1.2mi easy and scenic walk along the road back around the lake).
Before you leave Bixhoma Lake, make sure you check out the short Bixhoma Falls Trail to Bixhoma Falls. It's definitely worth it!
