Devil's Den Trail

The Devil's Den Trail is one of the most accessible scenic and picturesque hiking trails within Devil's Den State Park.The 1.3 mile loop trail passes through a variety of landscapes over that short distance, including wooded forest, limestone caves, cliffside waterfalls, stony vista points, and small bridges crossing steams across the forest floor. While it is fine to hike the loop in either direction, we suggest going in a counter clockwise direction as it builds in elevation before reaching the waterfalls last.There is about 175 feet of total elevation gain here, including stairs carved into the forest floor. A trail map is posted on an interpretive sign at the start of the hike. Beyond this point there are no signs or amenities, aside from red blazes along the trail marking the route.Despite the short distance, this trail attracts crowds, which combined with the interesting natural elements such as caves and waterfalls, hikers should give themselves a bit of time for this hike. With waterfalls varying by season, hikers should also plan on there being a bit of mud and wet areas along the hike.For those visiting the state park and looking for one hike that combines the park's different areas of interest and variety, the Devil's Den Trail is that trail.
