Trailhead is located at the end of the dirt road in Lory State Park. Get a daily parking pass from the Visitor Center and then drive to the end of the road where there are signs for Arthur's Rock and restrooms. Arthur's Rock Trail is intended for foot traffic only;however, Howard Trail is open to equestrians and bikers as well as hikers. I personally did it clockwise, up Howard Trail and down Arthur's Rock Trail, but it can be done either way. Howard Trail has significantly less traffic and goes farther into the foothills, giving a more isolated feel. There are also a few spots that offer nice views of Arthur's Rock, which could be a great place to take a break and watch any climbing parties on Arthur's Rock. There is a short but steep side trail that gives access to the top of Arthur's Rock. Arthur's Rock Trail is steeper in general, but offers direct access to Arthur's Rock climbing areas and boulders. The trail has limited shade, especially midday, so plan accordingly. There is no water source at the trailhead or anywhere on the trail.
