Limekiln Falls

Sharing the same lower section of trail with the Limekiln Trail, the Limekiln Falls Trail splits off and continues along the main fork of Limekiln Creek and ascends Limekiln Canyon. After crossing some footbridges the trail continues for another quarter mile to the base of a 100-foot limestone cliff. Hikers can access the base of the waterfall by climbing up and over a hump of boulders and downed trees. A good there-and-back to combine with either the Hare Creek Trail, the Limekiln Trail, or both, Limekiln Falls is a perfect hike for a warm day when the shaded redwood canyon and spray of the falls will provide welcomed relief. If you visit Limekiln falls in the winter, watch for the annual migration of the native southern steelhead population returning to spawn in Limekiln State Park's crystal clear waters. The Limekiln Trailhead is located beyond the park's entrance station at the back of the state park campground. There is day use parking in the park, or you can park in the pullout on Highway 1 near the top of the park entrance road for free.
