Description
This popular trail is conveniently located just a few miles east of downtown Palmer. The trail is accessed from the Lazy Mountain Recreation Area trailhead, and it's tough to miss the starting point. The Lazy Mountain Trail begins around 700 feet of elevation and climbs through trees and meadows to a wooden picnic bench (designating the halfway point) at 2350 ft. in about one mile. The name "Lazy Mountain" is a bit of a misnomer, and visitors will soon see why! From this point, the trail begins to open up above treeline and alternates between steep pitches similar to the first mile and flatter, more easily navigable sections. Visitors will continue on until reaching a second wooden picnic table about a quarter-mile from the summit. The summit should be visible from the second picnic table (weather permitting) and is guarded by one last steep, rocky pitch of climbing.
