Description
This is a great trail for a family hike or if you just need to get out of the house. Government Island is a historic park that used to be a sandstone quarry utilized during construction of many monuments and buildings around Washington D.C. The initial path out to the quarry is paved and bridges have been built over the marsh lands but once you get across the marsh, it is all dirt trail. Along the trail are many historic markers that coincide with nice views over the water.
