Description
This trail passes by a road but there is no parking area so the trail has to be entered from the Buffington Trail. A bridge over a small canal connects the Buffington Trail to the Whitehurst Trail. A mallard couple has made this canal their home. Once over the bridge, cross over the dirt/mud road and enter the trail into the woods. In a short distance, you'll meet up with the dirt road again. There are a few mud puddles to get around but you'll eventually reach West Neck Road. Just before the road, the trail turns left to run along the road. Fortunately, there is a dense small pine forest between the road and the trail so you hear the noise but don't see much of the traffic. The trail makes another left turn when the it comes to a municipal building. Shortly, you'll be heading back into the woods. I've seen a herd of deer cross the path in this area. My dog picks up a lot of smells in this area also so I don't think that's the first time the deer were here. The trail goes through a nice forest for a good stretch then comes back to the dirt road which will take you back to the bridge to the Buffington Trail.
