Annie Creek Canyon Loop Trail

Begin the Annie Creek Canyon Loop Trail at the trailhead behind the amphitheater in Mazama Village Campground, or choose any one of the other access points within the campground. The trail may be walked in either direction as it skirts the canyon's southern rim. As the trail passes nearby campsites, views of Annie Creek Canyon and Godfrey Glen (Munson Creek Canyon) open up through breaks in the lodgepole pine and mountain hemlock. Be sure to look across the canyon for Annie Creek's distinct columnar formations that have been sculpted and eroded from the canyon's ashy slopes, much like the formations found at The Pinnacles. Once you descend on the switchbacks down to Annie Creek (which, incidentally, provides the drinking water for Crater Lake National Park), you'll find yourself walking along a tranquil creek bed that seems a world away from the crowds of the campground above. As you walk this roughly half-mile stretch of trail that crisscrosses Annie Creek, enjoy the wildflowers that bloom in late June and early July, including the distinctive scarlet gilia, monkshood, and various types of penstemon. One of the world's largest western white pines was found in the canyon in 1931. It has a circumference of 23 feet and is estimated to be 1,000 years old.
