Description
Breckenridge Peaks Loop is a 21.3-mile loop that winds through Breckenridge Ski Area, White River National Forest, and the Tenmile Range near Breckenridge, Colorado. The trail begins at the Peaks Trail Trailhead located off Ski Hill Road and travels counterclockwise through lush forests of lodgepole pines, aspens, and firs, passing streams and meadows.This is a challenging, high elevation route that takes place between 9,916' and 13,531' with an overall gain of 5,669'. Breckenridge has stunning alpine scenery and is extremely popular among outdoor enthusiasts. It is one of the most visited ski resorts in the western United States. The route follows trails that are suitable for trail running, hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, skiing, and snowshoeing. The area does not allow the use of e-bikes on its trails. COMMON WILDLIFEThe Breckenridge Area is home to a variety of animals including moose, black bears, red fox, mountain goats, coyotes, deer, beavers, porcupine, bighorn sheep, and lynx.DIRECTIONSTake the Peaks Trail north from the Peaks Trail Trailhead, leaving Breckenridge Ski Area and traveling across flat, forested terrain into White River National Forest. At the Miner's Creek Trail, turn left and begin to ascend, heading east and then south.Keep right (west) of the next trail junction (approximately mile 9.30) to stay on Miner's Creek Trail. The trail climbs steeply to Peaks #9 and #10, reaching a high point of 13,531'. The trail descends to the north before traveling east on County Road 751, passing through the southern part of Breckenridge Ski Area and returning to the Peaks Trail Trailhead.DISPERSED CAMPINGDispersed camping is permitted in White River National Forest.
