Big Springs

Big Springs is a great place to visit on any trip to Island Park, West Yellowstone, or Yellowstone National Park. Big Springs is a huge spring that puts out 120 million gallons of water a day. It is a designated National Natural Landmark. It is the headwaters for the Henrys Fork River, which downstream produces Mesa Falls. Big Springs is one of the 40 biggest springs on earth. The springs maintain a 52 degree temperature making them fun to visit year round. I have made many trips here by snowmobile, ATV, and Car. There is a large parking area that can be pretty busy in summer. There are many large Trout in the of the bridge. There is no fishing allowed, but you can purchase fish food to feed the Trout. It is also common to see Eagles, Osprey, Ducks, Deer, Moose, and Muskrats. The springs are beautiful and you can also explore the historic Johnny Sack Cabin. There are several viewing platforms and a small trail that follows the river a ways and is a good place to view Moose. The views are amazing all around.
