Description
Lula Lake Land Trust is a privately run preservation of an area in northwest Georgia. It holds "open gate" weekends where the public is welcome to visit and enjoy the spectacular and unique lake, waterfall, and surrounding lands. From the parking lot, cross the creek on a small footbridge to access the trail network. The Middle Trail cuts through the center of the park and follows the ridge contour, so it is quite easy going. At 1.5 miles, the trail crosses the creek again, although on a much larger bridge. Just past the bridge and to the left the creek plunges down a narrow rock chute into Lula Lake. A side trail leads down to the shore. Continuing on, a small and primitive footpath leads to the left. This goes to the creek again and spits out at the very top of the main waterfall. Use extreme caution as the drop-off is steep and a long way down! Following the main road further to a marked intersection will lead down to the base of the falls. The descent is steep and can be slippery after a rain. At the base of the falls, visitors are welcome to explore the area, navigate the boulders in the creek, and get as close as you dare to the pounding stream of water. Behind the falls is a small cave, and downstream is a maze of boulders and rock-hopping. To return to the parking lot, either take the same Middle Trail or follow the double-tracked service road.
