Loop
This loop begins at the trailhead off Catalinas Road and climbs gradually along the Kite Hill–Fox Hill Trail, following the open ridge northward with expansive views across the Harlem Valley. After a steady walk along the ridgeline, the route turns onto the Charcoal Loop Trail, which descends into mixed hardwood forest and loops around the base of Fox Hill. Along this section, hikers will pass interpretive signs and the remains of historic charcoal mounds nestled beneath the canopy. The trail then climbs gently to rejoin the Kite Hill–Fox Hill Trail, returning along the same ridge path to the trailhead.
Though the route is well-maintained, expect occasional muddy stretches, especially near the base of the loop, and uneven footing along the ridge. This is a good option for day hikes in the Hudson Valley, with year-round access, scenic terrain, and abundant bird activity in spring and early summer.
