The Bailey Canyon Trail climbs up to a saddle just north of Jones Peak. Keep right near the end to head to the peak. Around there you have a few options, including continuing along the peak to connect to the Mount Wilson Trail. Or you can simply retrace your steps to make an out-and-back hike.
This trail starts at the Bailey Canyon Nature Center and follows the canyon up and around a debris basin. Shortly up the canyon there is a spur to a waterfall. The trail turns out of the canyon and gently climbs through chaparral with minimal shade reaching an old cabin site next to a spring in a little over 2 miles. This is a nice destination with shady bay trees but watch for poison oak.
From the cabin site, a non-system trail climbs up a series of short switchbacks to a saddle just north of Jones Peak. This section of trail does not meet trail standards and can be much rougher. From the saddle, a fuel break can be taken south (right turn) to the top of Jones Peak. Another option is to head north on the ridge to the Jones Peak Saddle Connector which connects with the Mt. Wilson Trail #11W22.
