From the junction with North Fork Moorman's River Trail, the trail transitions to a gravel fire road. From this junction, North Fork Moormans River Road continues north, leaving the park's boundary briefly before turning back to the northwest to re-enter the park. The fire road ends at Skyline Drive, and when hiking in this direction, it is a constant, but not steep climb.
