Loop
Trails are mostly not marked with signs, so a map is helpful to keep you going in the right direction. There are some short out-and-back spurs to bay and sound views. There is one section of very loose sand for maybe a mile. This loop combines the trails with the least amount of beach sand hiking. This loop is often combined with an extra jaunt over the Bob Sikes Bridge over to Pensacola Beach to add the beautiful Gulf of Mexico waters and sugar like sand beaches.
This area was set aside by President Andrew Johnson as a preserve for oak trees to be used for ship building. This part of Gulf Islands National Seashore is called Naval Live Oaks.
