Description
The Mission Creek Preserve Lollipop is a 12-mile loop located west of Desert Hot Springs. It is characterized by a unique biodiversity, historical artifacts, hiking trails, and picnic areas. In this transition zone between the Sonoran and Mojave deserts, nature lovers will find a unique landscape to enjoy. MIssion Creek area has plants and animals from both deserts, as well as a beautiful riparian environment tucked away by the colorful cliffs and jagged peaks of Mount San Gorgonio. It is a popular hiking, trail running, backpacking, bird watching and all-around nature lover's destination. The route begins on Mission Creek Road, a wide dirt road. It follows Mission Creek Road for about 1.5 miles until it reaches the Stonehouse. A historical structure from the ranching era, the Stonehouse is a reminder of the days when ranching was a way of life. Visitors can find interpretive signs, restrooms, and picnic tables here. From the Stonehouse, take the West Fork Trail to the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Head northbound on the PCT which will reconnect to Mission Creek and the Mission Creek Road. Turn right on Mission Creek Road, complete the loop and retrace your steps back to the start. PARKINGThe parking lot is located 2.5 miles down a sandy, dirt road. The road should be suitable for most vehicles, however, weather may have an impact and it is always a good idea to call in advance to find out more information.
