Description
Devil's Hall Trail is a moderately difficult out-and-back trail in Guadalupe Mountain National Park. The trail starts at the Pine Springs Campground where you'll find trail signs to Devil's Hall. All trail junctions along the route are clear for hikers to follow to their destination. The trail starts out with a quick ascent and then gradually follows Pine Springs Canyon. The first mile of the trail is also the stock trail for Guadalupe Peak and has beautiful views of Pine Springs Canyon. After the first mile the trail spilts and quickly descends into the canyon. The remaining portion of the trail follows the wash of the canyon. While there are several different ways to hike up the wash, it would be difficult to get lost. The Guadalupe Mountains flank both sides, offering views from time to time of the mountains that surround the trail. After about a half a mile the walls of the canyon narrow, the rock formations form an entrance to the rest of the canyon, and the wash turns into the Hiker's Staircase, which can be difficult to navigate. It is important to be carfeul around this area because the stairs and potholes need to be navigated. Follow the trail a little less than a half mile to reach Devil's Hall. There is a sign that will mark the entrance to the canyon. Then follow the same route out of the canyon back to the trailhead. This trail is considered to be in the desert, so hikers should bring plenty of water and sunscreen and be aware of rattlesnakes. This is also a scenic trail to hike after a winter snow storm.
