Description
The Dunsmore Canyon / Le Mesnager Loop Trail is a 3.2-mile loop that explores Dunsmore Canyon and the Le Mesnager Loop Trail. Located northeast of Los Angeles, within the Deukmejian Wilderness Park, these trails are situated in the foothills of Angeles National Forest. Despite the short distance of this route there are still some challenging steep climbs. Along the trails, you will find chaparral, manzanita, yucca, sage, oak trees, and various desert scrub plants. It offers scenic views overlooking Glendale, Los Angeles, and on a clear day, you can see as far as the Pacific Ocean. This area is the perfect location for locals to enjoy some peaceful nature and escape the hustle and bustle of the city below.The trails in this area open year-round and are popular for trail running, hiking, and nature viewing. DEUKMEJIAN WILDERNESS PARK / TRAILHEADThe trailhead features a large paved parking area, covered picnic tables, bathroom facilities, potable water, and access to a variety of hiking trails. The park features trails that are accessible to all levels from short, easy nature walks to long, strenuous climbs. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONSThis route has little shade and can experience extreme heat in the summer.Potable water is available at the trailhead, however, there is no water along the trail. Deukmejian Wilderness Park is open from 6:00 a.m. - 1 hour after sunset. The park is open from sunrise to dusk, make sure you do not leave a car in the parking area past sunset or it will get locked inside.Look out for rattlesnakes on the trails in this area.
