Cavern Point Loop Trail

Just before the visitor center, there is a trail tucked into the hillside on your right. Right away, you'll ascend a few stairs and then continue on up the trail above the boat dock. Look back across the channel and over to Scorpion Anchorage. Once you reach the top of the initial incline, the going flattens our as you hike along the cliff's edge. Don't venture too close to the edge, as the drop off is dangerous. You'll be along the edge for about a mile. It is at the beginning of this flat area that I spotted my first Island Fox. I didn't have time to take my camera out though! When you arrive at Cavern Point, be sure to check out the hard sandy formations. They are only inches high. Be sure to go past the service road before heading down the correct trail.
