Description
Buck Trail can be done in either direction, but is best traveled as a loop along with trails on the south side of Highway 90. About 30 minutes from Montrose, this area provides an escape from the summer heat. Best in late spring through early fall, it's a wonderful place to enjoy the fall colors. There are a few enjoyable descents over root-filled and rocky sections. The climbs are not too strenuous, but some are pretty loose because the trail is shared with motorbikes. Start at the trailhead off of Hwy 90 near the forest boundary. The trail drops quickly and some of the more rugged hiking is near the start. Buck Trail works its way north and then curves back south. There are a few aspen groves and singletrack sections through open fields. Head right when you reach the doubletrack section near the Powerline trail and the end near Hwy 90 is close by.
