Mount Buckhorn Loop is a short hike located in North Cheyenne Canon. This hike explores a portion of North Cheyenne Canon Park and summits Mount Buckhorn. This loop is 4.4 miles long and gains over 850 feet of elevation. This hike starts from the Upper Gold Camp Parking Area. There are portable toilets available here. Begin hiking west on Gold Camp Road. You will be hiking gradually uphill. The trail is very wide for this section. After 0.7 miles, you will come to a junction and turn right towards Buckhorn Trail. Another 0.1 miles brings you to a second junction where you will go right onto Buckhorn Trail. This trail will continue uphill but is a bit steeper than the beginning of the hike. Walk up the trail amongst coniferous trees. After 1.1 miles, you will come to a junction and turn right onto Captain Jacks Trail 667. After 0.3 miles, turn left onto an unnamed social trail. This will lead you to a beautiful viewpoint after 0.1 miles. You will be able to see many peaks in the Front Range. From here, continue north on the social trail. Another 0.3 miles will bring you to the summit of Mount Buckhorn. From here, turn around and hike 0.4 miles back to Captain Jacks Trail 667. Turn left here. You will now be hiking downhill. After 0.6 miles, you will come to a junction and go right onto High Drive. You will now be hiking downhill on a wide trail. Follow this trail for 1 mile to return to the trailhead. North Cheyenne Canon Park is open 5am-9pm from November through April. It is open from 5am-10pm from May through October. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are allowed on this trail, but they must be on a leash.
