Fenwick Ranch Road to Three Forks Recreation Site is a 33.8 mile out and back backpacking hike through the rugged and remote high desert of Eastern Oregon. This route begins from Fenwick Ranch Road, located off Soldier Creek Road, and heads west toward the Owyhee River. The journey takes a detour around Whitehorse Butte and connects to Three Forks Road, offering a brief section along the edge of the canyon (there's an option to skip this part and stay on Fenwick Ranch Road to shorten the overall distance). This route is ideal for experienced backpackers seeking solitude, a mix of desert terrain and dramatic canyon views.This trek will take you through wide open spaces, high desert flats, and rugged canyons as well as sweeping views of the surrounding Owyhee River country. The trail winds through remote backcountry, gradually descending into the Three Forks Recreation Site, a stunning area where three forks of the Owyhee River converge, the North Fork Owyhee, Middle Fork Owyhee, and Owyhee River. This picturesque location is a great spot for rest and exploration.FLORA AND FAUNAFlora and fauna along this route reflect the high desert environment of the Owyhee region. Expect to see hardy vegetation like sagebrush, rabbitbrush, and greasewood, along with juniper trees.
