Point to Point
This short but steep hike provides panoramic views of the Umpqua National Forest and surrounding mountains like the Three Sisters and Mount McLoughlin. Starting in the Bohemia Saddle parking area, the trail travels up to the summit along a steep and narrow trail. In late June, wildflowers blanket the hillsides. Once at the top, be sure to walk out to the east end of the plateau for better views of the forest, the lookout tower on neighboring Fairview Peak, Diamond Peak, and the old town of Bohemia City down below to the north. Named after the Czech immigrant, James aBohemiaa Johnson, who discovered gold in the area in 1863, Bohemia Mining District boomed in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It was one of the most productive mining areas in the Cascades. The old mines as well as some mining equipment are on private land, but the old post office building is located on federal land. Hikers can walk the half-mile in to explore the area, but proceed with caution. There are other adventures nearby to check out such as Fairview Peak, Bohemia City (the old ghost town), and the Musick Guard Station, which is available to rent for the night.
