This trail is all about canyon scenery. While the trail does gain about 500 ft of elevation, you'll hardly notice it. The trail follows noisy Santiago Canyon Road for a little bit, but after you are behind the ridge, it's dead quiet.
The fire road is in good condition, with a couple soft, sandy spots but no big deal. It's half shade, half sun. Limestone Canyon Road traverses a few meadows and oak forests, and at the end the hiker is rewarded with a stunning view of the Sinks, OC's mini-grand canyon.
